What is an Ontario Driver’s License?

In Canada each province issues its own driver’s license and rules may vary. However all provinces allow visitors to use out-of-province or international licenses.

In Ontario you must go through a graduated licensing system to become a fully licensed driver. This involves passing a knowledge test and multiple road tests before you can drive independently and obtain car insurance.

An Ontario driving license is an official permit issued by the province that allows residents to legally operate a motor vehicle. It follows a graduated system (G1 → G2 → G) and is also recognized in many other countries through international agreements.
